sRGB is right for screens and the web. Keep the original for print workflows; grayscale discards color.

In short
- 1PNG keeps transparent backgrounds and soft edges from the WebP, which JPG cannot do.
- 2The conversion is lossless: the PNG shows exactly the pixels the WebP shows.
- 3Expect a bigger file, because PNG compresses less tightly than WebP.
When a WebP should become a PNG
Websites often deliver their logos, icons, product cutouts and stickers as WebP, frequently with a transparent background. When you save one and try to drop it into a slide, a document or a design tool, it either refuses to open or arrives on a white box. PNG solves both problems: almost every program reads it, and it keeps the transparency intact.
The same applies to screenshots, charts and diagrams that a site has converted to WebP. These images have sharp edges and flat colors, which a lossy format like JPG smears. PNG stores them pixel for pixel, so text stays readable and lines stay clean.
For an ordinary photo without transparency, PNG works but brings little benefit and a much larger file. The WebP to JPG page is the better fit for those.
What changes between WebP and PNG
WEBP
WebP image
Google's image format for the web, released in 2010. One file type covers both lossy photos and lossless graphics, and it can carry a transparent background or a short animation. Every current browser shows it, yet many desktop programs, print services and upload forms still turn it away.

PNG
PNG image
An open raster format the PNG Development Group published in 1996 as a patent-free replacement for GIF. Compression is lossless and a full alpha channel keeps soft edges and cutouts clean. It suits screenshots, logos and interface graphics; photos come out much larger than as JPG.
- Lossless
- Transparency
- Still images only
Why convertThis direction keeps everything that makes a web graphic usable: the alpha channel, crisp edges and exact colors. You lose only WebP's compact size. Choose it for logos, cutouts and screenshots you will reuse in other software.
WebP can be lossy or lossless, and you cannot tell which from the extension. A lossless WebP becomes a PNG with identical pixels. A lossy WebP has already discarded some detail, and the PNG reproduces that slightly softened picture exactly without adding new damage. Either way, the PNG will not degrade when you edit and save it later.
File size goes up. Google's WebP documentation states that lossless WebP images are 26 percent smaller than PNGs, so even a perfect lossless conversion produces a larger file. For a few logos that hardly matters; for hundreds of product images, keep the WebP originals for the website and use the PNGs only where they are needed.
How to convert WebP to PNG
Add the WebP images
Drop up to 20 .webp files on the box above, or press Choose Files to pick them.
Leave PNG as the output
PNG is preset and lossless, so there is no quality to choose. For animated WebP files, pick the first frame or every frame under Advanced settings.
Convert and download
Press Convert to PNG and save the files one by one or all at once.
WebP to PNG questions
Does WebP to PNG keep the transparent background?
Yes. PNG has a full alpha channel, so transparent and semi-transparent pixels in the WebP come through unchanged. Soft shadows and anti-aliased edges keep their partial transparency.
Why is the PNG bigger than the WebP file?
WebP compresses more tightly than PNG. Google reports lossless WebP files as about a quarter smaller than PNGs, and a lossy WebP photo has an even bigger head start. The PNG holds the same pixels, it just needs more bytes to store them.
Will a lossy WebP look better after conversion to PNG?
No. Any detail the WebP encoder removed stays removed. The PNG is an exact copy of what the WebP shows, and from then on it will not lose anything more when you edit and save it.
What happens to an animated WebP when converted to PNG?
By default you get the first frame as one PNG. Choose Export every frame under Advanced settings to get each frame as its own PNG, or use WebP to GIF to keep the motion in one file.
Should I pick PNG or JPG for a WebP from a website?
PNG for logos, icons, screenshots and anything with a transparent background or text. JPG for photos you only want to view or share, because it gives much smaller files.
Can I use the converted PNG in Photoshop, Canva or Word?
Yes. PNG is accepted by practically every editor, design tool and office program, including older versions that cannot import WebP.

Browsers show both formats, so the problem is rarely viewing. It is editing, printing and uploading in software that predates WebP. Sources: caniuse, MDN image types.
Every current browser displays WebP, which is why so many sites use it. Safari was the last major browser to add it, in version 14 in 2020. The gap is elsewhere: older versions of desktop editors, office suites, print services and many content management systems still expect PNG or JPG, and the images you save from the web end up stuck.
PNG has been a W3C Recommendation since 1996 and is the default lossless format in nearly every tool. Converting once means you no longer have to check whether each program understands WebP.
PNG copies of web graphics are also easier to archive. The format has no patents, many independent decoders and a long record of stable support, so a folder of PNG logos will open in tools that do not exist yet as well as in the ones you use today.
Three kinds of WebP file
The settings on this page suit most WebP files as they are. Animated files are the only case that needs a decision, and the switcher below shows what each kind of WebP turns into. All files in a batch of up to 20 get the same choice.
Converted files are deleted 30 minutes after processing, and the uploads are removed straight away. If you also need the graphics at a set size, Resize Image keeps transparency as well.
Color profiles are kept by default, so brand colors in a logo do not shift. If you need the PNGs without location or camera details, those are removed automatically; WebP graphics from websites rarely carry them anyway.
A WebP with a transparent background becomes a PNG with the same alpha channel.
- Transparent areas stay transparent
- Soft shadows keep their partial transparency
- Edges stay sharp at the original size
A lossy WebP photo becomes an exact PNG copy of what you see, at a much larger file size.
- No new compression damage
- Good as a master copy for editing
- For sharing only, JPG is smaller
PNG holds a single image, so an animated WebP needs a choice under Animated input.
- First frame only, as one PNG
- Every frame as its own PNG
- To keep the motion, convert to GIF
