JPEG to PNG Converter
Convert .jpeg images to PNG without forcing them into sRGB, so photos in Adobe RGB or Display P3 keep their colors for editing and print layouts.

85 keeps photos visually identical to the original. Lower it only when you need a smaller file.
JPG, BMP and EPS have no transparency. Transparent pixels are filled with this color.
Hex color used behind transparent pixels, e.g. #FFFFFF.
This format holds a single image. Choose GIF or WebP output if you want to keep the animation.
A multi-size icon contains several resolutions in one file; browsers and operating systems pick the one they need.
Keep the original dimensions, or enter one side and the aspect ratio is kept.
Pixels for the side you chose above.
Percentage of the original dimensions.
sRGB is right for screens and the web. Keep the original for print workflows; grayscale discards color.
Metadata only, 0 keeps the original value. Printers and some portals read this number; it does not change pixel dimensions.

16 bits
Maximum depth per color channel in PNG, against 8 in baseline JPEG
From the PNG specification and ITU-T T.81. A converted JPEG keeps its 8-bit values, but every edit after this is stored without loss.

Color space: what most converters change
Many photos are not in plain sRGB. Recent iPhones record Display P3, many cameras offer Adobe RGB, and print-oriented workflows prefer wider spaces because they hold more saturated greens, cyans and reds. The JPEG stores which space it uses in an embedded ICC profile.
A lot of quick converters ignore that and force everything into sRGB, or drop the profile altogether. The PNG then looks fine at first glance but has lost its most intense colors, or it shows shifted colors in a color-managed editor. For a family snapshot that hardly matters. For product photography, print layouts or retouching, it does.
This page keeps the original color space and the profile by default. The PNG holds the same colors as the JPEG, and any editor that reads profiles will display it correctly.
You can check which space a photo uses in most editors' image information panel, or in the file details on a Mac. If it says Adobe RGB, Display P3 or ProPhoto RGB, this page is the right one; if it says sRGB, the color setting makes no difference.
JPEG and PNG compared
JPG
JPG photo
The photo format standardized by the JPEG committee in the early 1990s and still the safest way to share a picture. It stores one still image with lossy compression and has no transparent areas. Phones, cameras, office software, printers and web forms all read it.
- Lossy
- No transparency
- Still images only
PNG
PNG image
An open raster format the PNG Development Group published in 1996 as a patent-free replacement for GIF. Compression is lossless and a full alpha channel keeps soft edges and cutouts clean. It suits screenshots, logos and interface graphics; photos come out much larger than as JPG.
- Lossless
- Transparency
- Still images only
Why convertJPEG to PNG here is about keeping control: a lossless file with the photo's own color space and profile intact, ready for color-managed editing and print. The file grows a lot. If you just need a PNG for the web, set sRGB or use JPG to PNG, which converts with the standard settings.
Both formats open in every program, as the table above shows, so the reason to convert is what happens next. A JPEG loses a little detail each time it is saved again. A PNG does not, and it can also hold transparency once you cut something out. Those two properties make it the better working file for layouts and retouching.
The JPEG's existing compression stays visible in the PNG, since nothing can restore detail that is already gone. What you gain is a stable base: every later save is exact, and the colors stay in the space they were captured in.
Orientation is applied during conversion, so portrait photos open upright in every editor. The pixels themselves are copied exactly, which means the PNG can serve as a master file for a whole project.
Who uses this setting
Keeping the color space is useful for anyone whose pictures end up in print or in an editor that manages color. The examples below show typical cases and the tool each person would reach for next.
Product photographer
Moves Adobe RGB shots into a layout tool for a printed catalog without losing saturated colors.
Then: Image to PDF for a proof
Designer
Retouches Display P3 phone photos over several sessions and needs saves that do not degrade.
Then: the Resize Image tool for final sizes
Print shop customer
Sends lossless files with the profile embedded so the shop can match colors.
Then: Compress Image if the upload is too large
Web editor
Wants predictable colors in every browser, so switches the color space to sRGB first.
Then: PNG to WebP for the site
Size, batches and privacy
PNG copies of photos are large, often several times the size of the JPEG. Convert only the images you will actually edit, and set a smaller width under Resize output if the full resolution is not needed. Up to 20 files fit in a batch, each up to 95 MB.
Location and camera details are removed by default while the color profile stays; untick Strip metadata to keep the EXIF data too. Uploads are deleted after processing and the PNGs 30 minutes later.
Keep the original JPEG files as well. They are the smaller archive copy, and if a project changes direction you can always convert them again with different settings.
How to convert JPEG to PNG
Add the JPEG files
Drop up to 20 .jpeg or .jpg files on the box above, or press Choose Files.
Keep the color space
Color space is set to Keep original and the color profile is kept, so wide-gamut photos stay as they are. Switch to sRGB under Advanced settings for web use.
Convert and download
Press Convert to PNG and save the lossless files.
JPEG to PNG questions
Why keep the original color space when converting JPEG to PNG?
Cameras and phones can save JPEGs in wide color spaces such as Adobe RGB or Display P3. Converting them to sRGB would clip the most saturated colors. Keeping the original space and profile lets a color-managed editor or print workflow use the full range.
When should I switch the color space to sRGB instead?
When the PNG goes to a website, a slide deck or an app that ignores color profiles. sRGB is what browsers and most screens assume, so colors look predictable everywhere.
Does a PNG made from a JPEG have more bit depth?
It can store up to 16 bits per channel, but a baseline JPEG only has 8, so the PNG holds the same 8-bit values. The benefit is that later edits, done at higher depth in your editor, are saved without new compression loss.
Is .jpeg handled differently from .jpg here?
No. Both extensions are the same JPEG format, and this page accepts both. The .jpeg spelling is just more common on Macs and in web downloads.
Why do the colors of my PNG look dull in some apps?
The app is probably ignoring the embedded color profile and treating a wide-gamut image as sRGB. Open it in a color-managed program, or convert again with Color space set to sRGB for that use.
