85 keeps photos visually identical to the original. Lower it only when you need a smaller file.
JPG, BMP and EPS have no transparency. Transparent pixels are filled with this color.
Hex color used behind transparent pixels, e.g. #FFFFFF.
This format holds a single image. Choose GIF or WebP output if you want to keep the animation.
A multi-size icon contains several resolutions in one file; browsers and operating systems pick the one they need.
Keep the original dimensions, or enter one side and the aspect ratio is kept.
Pixels for the side you chose above.
Percentage of the original dimensions.
sRGB is right for screens and the web. Keep the original for print workflows; grayscale discards color.
Metadata only, 0 keeps the original value. Printers and some portals read this number; it does not change pixel dimensions.

Can one SVG give me every favicon size?
Yes. Because the logo is vector, each size inside the ICO is drawn fresh at its own resolution, so the 16 px and 256 px versions are both sharp.

All three display as images. As site icons, ICO has the longest support and SVG the shortest, so offering ICO as the fallback is still common. Sources: MDN image types, caniuse.
Why start from the SVG
A favicon has to look right at very different sizes: tiny in a browser tab, larger in a bookmark list or on a phone home screen, and up to 256 pixels in some desktop views. A PNG logo is fixed at one size, so every smaller icon is a scaled-down copy, which can turn thin lines into grey smudges.
An SVG avoids that. Its shapes are instructions, so the converter can draw the logo fresh at 16, 32, 64, 128 and 256 pixels, each with its own clean anti-aliasing. Microsoft's icon guidance explains why several sizes matter: Windows looks for an exact match first and otherwise scales the next larger size down.
The result is a single ICO file that holds all of those versions. Browsers and operating systems open it and pick the size they need, so you upload one file instead of five.
Converting several logo variants is easy too. Up to 20 SVG files fit in one batch, so you can make icons for a main site, a staging site and a sister brand in one pass and compare them side by side.
SVG compared with ICO
SVG
SVG graphic
The W3C's XML-based vector format, published as a standard in 2001. Shapes and text are described as instructions rather than pixels, so the image stays sharp at any size, and it supports transparency and animation. Browsers render it natively, and cutting machines and design tools import it.

ICO
ICO icon
Microsoft's icon container for Windows programs and website favicons. One file can bundle the same icon at several sizes, stored losslessly with transparency. Windows and browsers read it, but most image editors need a plugin or export option to create one.

Why convertSVG to ICO turns one scalable logo into a bundle of pixel-perfect icon sizes in the format browsers and Windows have read longest. You give up infinite scaling for a fixed set of sizes that load anywhere. If you only need a single image for an upload, SVG to PNG is simpler.
ICO is Microsoft's icon container. Each image inside it is stored losslessly with transparency, and the format has been read by Windows and by browsers for decades. SVG is the W3C's vector format, ideal for designing a logo but less consistent as a site icon outside the newest browsers.
Converting therefore keeps the logo's shapes and transparent background but fixes them at specific pixel sizes. If you change the logo later, convert the new SVG again; never edit the ICO itself.
Designing for 16 pixels
Sixteen by sixteen pixels is 256 dots in total. A full logo with a wordmark, a tagline or fine strokes cannot survive at that size, however good the rendering is. Look at the 16 px version after converting: if it is a blur, simplify.
Most brands use a reduced mark for their favicon, such as the first letter, the symbol without text, or the logo on a solid square. Make that version as its own SVG, with thicker strokes and fewer details, and convert it here. The larger sizes inside the ICO will still look good, because they come from the same clean drawing.
If the icon also needs a separate PNG, for example a 180 px image for phone home screens, render it from the same SVG with the SVG to PNG tool and set the width under Resize output. For a quick look at other targets, the Image Converter takes the same file.
Putting the favicon on your site
Upload the ICO to the root of your site as favicon.ico, and declare it in the page head with a link tag whose rel value is icon. The HTML standard's rel=icon section describes the sizes attribute, which tells browsers what resolutions a file holds. Many sites add the SVG as a second icon link for browsers that prefer it.
Google Search shows a favicon next to your results and publishes favicon guidelines: the icon must be square and at least 8 by 8 pixels, and larger than 48 by 48 is recommended. The 64 px and bigger sizes in this ICO meet that.
How to convert SVG to ICO
Add the SVG logo
Drop the .svg file on the box above, or press Choose Files. Up to 20 logos can be converted at once.
Keep all icon sizes
All sizes (16–256) is preset under Icon sizes, so one ICO holds every common resolution. Pick a single size only if a program asks for it.
Convert and upload
Press Convert to ICO, download the favicon file and place it in your site's root folder.
SVG to ICO questions
Why convert an SVG to ICO when browsers accept SVG favicons?
Support for SVG favicons is still uneven across browsers and other tools that read site icons, such as bookmark managers and older systems. An ICO file works almost everywhere, so many sites offer both: an SVG for modern browsers and favicon.ico as the fallback.
Which sizes does the ICO made from my SVG contain?
With All sizes (16–256) the file holds 16, 32, 64, 128 and 256 pixel versions. Each one is rendered directly from the SVG, so none is a blurry scaled copy of another.
My logo is unreadable at 16 pixels. What can I do?
Detailed logos and long words do not survive at 16 px. Make a simplified SVG, for example just the initial or the symbol, and convert that for the favicon.
Does the ICO keep the transparent background of the SVG?
Yes. Every size in the ICO has an alpha channel, so the icon sits cleanly on light and dark browser tabs.
Where do I put the favicon.ico file on my website?
Place it in the root folder, so it is reachable at /favicon.ico, and add a link tag in the page head pointing to it. Browsers also check that address on their own.
