In New South Wales, daylight saving starts at 2:00 AM standard time on the first Sunday in October and ends at 3:00 AM daylight time on the first Sunday in April. The NSW Government's daylight saving page lists the current dates. Victoria, the ACT and Tasmania follow the same rule, while Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not change.

Because the seasons are reversed, Sydney's summer time overlaps with the northern winter. That is why the gap to Europe and North America swings by two hours across the year, not one.

Sydney's daylight saving dates have shifted over time. The current rule, first Sunday in October to first Sunday in April, has been in force since 2008; before that the season was shorter.

Hours to add to the time in Sydney; a minus sign means the other city is behind

January and July gaps for the coming year. Northern cities change in March and October or November, Sydney in April and October, so the gap passes through a middle value in between.

London is eleven hours behind Sydney in January and nine in July. In late March and in October there are a few weeks when only one of the two has changed, and the gap is ten. New York moves between sixteen and fourteen hours in the same way.
