Vietnam's clock has an unusual history. Under different governments the south moved between UTC+7, UTC+8 and UTC+9; from 1960 to 1975 Saigon ran one hour ahead of Hanoi. After reunification in 1975 the whole country settled on UTC+7, and it has not changed since.

The IANA time zone database keeps the city's past offsets under Asia/Ho_Chi_Minh, so old timestamps convert correctly.

Hours to add to the time in Ho Chi Minh City; a minus sign means the other city is behind

Current year. Cities with summer time show a smaller gap in July (northern hemisphere) or January (southern hemisphere).

Within Southeast Asia the clock splits at the border with Malaysia: Bangkok and Phnom Penh match Ho Chi Minh City, while Singapore and Kuala Lumpur are an hour ahead. Tokyo and Seoul are two hours ahead.

For European partners, the gap shrinks by one hour in their summer: Paris is six hours behind in winter and five in summer. The Kuala Lumpur clock shows the UTC+8 side of the region.

In the city itself, life starts early. Markets and cafés open around sunrise, which falls between about 5:30 AM and 6:10 AM all year, and the working day often begins at 8:00 AM with a long lunch break. That leaves the late afternoon as the usual window for calls with Europe.
