Hours to add to the time in Amsterdam; a minus sign means the other city is behind
The two columns match for any city that changes its clocks on the same night as the Netherlands. They split for cities outside Europe: Tokyo is eight hours ahead in January and seven in July, and Johannesburg is one hour ahead in winter but level in summer.
Before 1940 the Netherlands kept its own Amsterdam time, about twenty minutes ahead of GMT. Today it shares the zone of its neighbors, so the Berlin clock and the Paris clock always read the same.
Amsterdam's location makes the change easy to notice. In late June the sun sets around 10:00 PM, while in December it is dark before 4:30 PM. Debate about ending the seasonal change is lively in the Netherlands, but any move would most likely be coordinated with Belgium and Germany so that the border region keeps one clock.
