Days Between Dates
Pick a start date and an end date to see how many days lie between them, and the same span in weeks, months, years and weekdays.

- Pick two dates
How do you count the days between two dates?
Subtract the earlier date from the later one. The result counts the start day but not the end day, which is how age, deadlines and interest periods are usually counted.

Counting the end day or not
The same two dates can honestly give two answers. From June 1 to June 30 is 29 days if you count the gap between them, the way a contract that ends on June 30 measures its length. It is 30 days if you count every calendar day you are present, the way you count the days of a festival or a holiday.
The calculator starts with the first reading, because that is what most deadline and duration questions mean. The checkbox switches to the second by adding the end date to the count.

Leap years ahead: 2028, 2032, 2036, 2040, 2044, 2048
February is the only month that changes length. A year is a leap year when it divides by 4, except century years, which must also divide by 400. That is why 2000 had a February 29 and 2100 will not. The rule keeps the calendar within about a day of the seasons over thousands of years: 400 Gregorian years hold exactly 146,097 days.
Weekdays are not the same as business days
The weekday figure counts Monday to Friday and leaves out Saturdays and Sundays. It does not know about public holidays, company closures or a different working week. Some countries, such as Saudi Arabia, rest on Friday and Saturday, so a Monday-to-Friday count does not match their working days.
For a legal or payroll deadline, take the weekday number as a starting point and then remove the holidays named by the court, agency or employer that set the deadline.
Why months make spans uneven
Months range from 28 to 31 days, so a span in months depends on where it starts. The calculator counts whole calendar months first and then the days left over. When a start date has no match in a shorter month, it uses that month's last day: one month after January 31 is February 28, or February 29 in a leap year.
When you write dates for other people, the ISO 8601 form, such as 2027-03-14, avoids the confusion between month-first and day-first styles. The ISO page on the standard explains it. To count down to a fixed event instead, try the summer countdown.
Date calculator questions
Does the calculator count the start date and the end date?
By default it counts the start date but not the end date, so from Monday to Friday is 4 days. Tick Count the end date too to get 5, which is how you count the days of a trip or a course.
How many days are there in a year?
A common year has 365 days and a leap year has 366. Over the full 400-year cycle of the Gregorian calendar the average is 365.2425 days.
Are public holidays taken out of the weekday count?
No. Weekdays here are simply Monday to Friday. Holidays differ by country, state and employer, so subtract the ones that apply to you.
Can I count backward to a date in the past?
Yes. Put the later date first or use the swap button; the result is the same number of days, and the card notes that the count runs backward.
Is a time zone change or daylight saving included?
No, and it does not need to be. The calculator counts calendar days, so a day with a clock change still counts as one day.
