Egypt has switched summer time on and off several times. It used it for decades, dropped it in 2011, tried it again in 2014 and dropped it once more in 2015. A law passed in 2023 restored it, and Egypt has changed its clocks every spring and autumn since.
The Egyptian dates differ from Europe's. Clocks go forward at the very start of the last Friday in April and back at the end of the last Thursday in October, so the Thursday night lasts an hour longer. The IANA time zone database tracks these rules, which is what keeps phones and this page right.
Older devices may still show the wrong hour
Phones and computers that have not received a software update since 2023 may not know Egypt's summer time. If a device shows Cairo an hour behind the clock above between May and October, update its time zone data or set the time by hand.
