British Columbia's year-round time
British Columbia passed a law in 2019 to adopt permanent daylight time once the US West Coast did the same. In 2026 the province went ahead on its own: it moved its clocks forward on March 8, 2026, and on November 1 kept them where they were. The Government of British Columbia calls the result Pacific time, UTC−7.
Time zone software caught up through the IANA time zone database, whose 2026b release records the change for America/Vancouver. A device with older data may still show Vancouver an hour behind in winter.

Check devices with old time zone data
If a phone, laptop or booking system shows Vancouver at UTC−8 after November 1, 2026, its time zone data predates the change. Update the software, or compare with a source you trust before travel or meetings.

Hours to add to the time in Vancouver; a minus sign means the other city is behind
The new rule creates a winter split along the coast. From November to March, Vancouver is one hour ahead of Seattle and level with Denver; from March to November it matches Seattle again. Toronto is two hours ahead in winter and three in summer.
Overseas, the gap to Europe and Asia now moves only when the other city changes its clocks: Tokyo is sixteen hours ahead of Vancouver all year.
London is eight hours ahead of Vancouver while the UK is on British Summer Time, from late March to late October, and seven hours ahead for the rest of the year. Sydney moves the other way, because Australian daylight time runs from October to April: eighteen hours ahead during the southern summer and seventeen during the southern winter.
Vancouver time questions
Does British Columbia still change its clocks?
No. The province sprang forward on March 8, 2026, for the last time and stayed on UTC−7 on November 1, 2026.
What is the time zone in Vancouver called now?
The provincial government calls it Pacific time, abbreviated PCT, at UTC−7. It replaces the old PST and PDT labels.
Do Vancouver and Seattle keep the same time?
From March to November, yes. From November to March, Vancouver is one hour ahead of Seattle, because Washington still falls back.
What is the time difference between Vancouver and Toronto?
Three hours in summer and two hours in winter, when Ontario returns to standard time.
Do all parts of British Columbia keep the same time?
Not quite. A few eastern communities, such as Cranbrook, use Mountain Time and still change their clocks.
