Eastern Australia and the eastern United States sit in opposite hemispheres, so their summers fall in different months. New South Wales moves its clocks forward on the first Sunday in October and back on the first Sunday in April, as the NSW Government lists. The US moves forward on the second Sunday in March and back on the first Sunday in November.
Those four dates never line up, which is why the gap passes through 15 hours twice: once from mid-March to early April, when both sides are on daylight time, and again from early October to early November.

Planning across the date line
Do
- Write the weekday on both sides, for example Tue 8:00 AM AEDT / Mon 4:00 PM EST.
- Move recurring calls in March, April, October and November, when one side changes its clocks.
Avoid
- Using Brisbane time for Sydney in summer. Queensland stays on AEST and is an hour behind then.
- Booking a Friday afternoon in New York for a Sydney team. It is already Saturday morning there.
The handiest overlap is early morning in Sydney, which matches the late afternoon of the day before in New York. A 7:30 AM start in Sydney during the southern summer is 3:30 PM in New York, enough time for a short call before the US office closes.
Live clocks for Sydney and Toronto show both cities now, and the EST to AEST converter runs the same math from the US side.
