Seoul runs 17 hours ahead of the US West Coast in winter and 16 hours ahead in summer, so a Korean morning is the Californian afternoon before.

Each Seoul hour with the Pacific time in both US seasons. Most rows carry −1 because California is still on the previous day.

Daylight saving on one side only

South Korea has kept Korea Standard Time, UTC+9, without summer time since 1988. Pacific Time is UTC−8 as PST and UTC−7 as PDT. The US Department of Transportation oversees the switch at 2:00 AM local time on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November.

The periods below show the exact stretches with a 17-hour and a 16-hour gap for this year and next. A meeting fixed in Seoul time therefore moves by an hour in California twice a year, while one fixed in California time moves in Seoul.

Working across the Pacific

There is no shared daytime, so one side takes an early or late slot. The common choice is the Seoul morning: 8:00 AM KST is 3:00 PM the day before in Los Angeles on PST, or 4:00 PM on PDT. Engineering teams in the Bay Area often hand work to Seoul at the end of their day and pick up answers the next morning.

Mind the weekend: Monday 9:00 AM in Seoul is still Sunday afternoon in California. The Seoul, Seattle and Vancouver clocks show both sides now, and KST to EST covers the East Coast.

Do

  • Write the weekday for each city: Mon 9:00 AM KST / Sun 4:00 PM PDT.
  • Expect the Seoul slot to move an hour later after the November change.

Avoid

  • Sending a Friday-afternoon Pacific request and expecting a Saturday reply in Korea.
  • Using PST in July. California is on PDT then.
