85 keeps text crisp. Lower it only if the images are too large to upload.
Black & white produces pure black and white pixels, which suits scanned text and keeps files very small.
Each page becomes its own image. A ZIP keeps them together and numbered in page order.

JPG turns each page into a photo of the page: light, universally accepted, and sharp enough to read at the default settings.
When JPG is the right page format
Plenty of places take images but not documents. Messaging apps show a JPG inline, while a PDF arrives as an attachment that must be opened. Social networks accept only images. Many application portals have separate upload slots that each take one JPG, for example one per page of a certificate or one for each side of an ID. And photo frames, digital signage and some print kiosks read JPG but not PDF.
For those cases a JPG of each page is the simplest answer. It is also the lighter choice for pages that carry photographs, scanned paper or colored backgrounds, where JPG compression is very efficient. For pages of plain black text, a PNG stays sharper at a similar size; PDF to PNG covers that.
Think about who will look at the image. A JPG is perfect for someone who only needs to see the page, such as an admissions officer checking a certificate or a friend reading a menu. It is the wrong format for someone who needs to copy text, fill in fields or sign the document; for them, send the PDF itself.
PDF document
Adobe's Portable Document Format from 1993, now an open ISO standard. It fixes text, images and layout so a page looks the same on every screen and printer, and it can carry forms, links and transparency. Every operating system and browser can open it, though editing the content is harder than in a word processor.

- Still images only

JPG photo
The photo format standardized by the JPEG committee in the early 1990s and still the safest way to share a picture. It stores one still image with lossy compression and has no transparent areas. Phones, cameras, office software, printers and web forms all read it.

Why convertHere a document page becomes a compact photo-style image: the file is small and opens in every app, gallery and form, at the cost of selectable text and a little edge sharpness. To collect JPGs back into a single document, JPG to PDF does the reverse.
How quality changes the image
JPG quality settings for PDF pages
- 60Small files for previews; faint blocks around text and edges.
- 75Good for photos and scans when an upload limit is tight.
- 85Default: clean text and photos at a modest size.Recommended
- 95Near-lossless look for print or detailed diagrams; larger files.
Quality runs from 1 to 100 and decides how much detail JPG compression may discard. At 85 the result looks the same as the page on screen for most documents, which is why it is the default. Below about 70, edges of letters start to show faint ringing; above 95, files grow quickly for little visible gain.
Resolution works alongside it. The preset 150 dpi gives an A4 page about 1240 × 1754 pixels, readable on any phone or laptop. Raise it to 300 dpi for print or for pages with very small text, keeping in mind that the file grows roughly four times.
Fixing common results
Most problems with PDF to JPG come from a mismatch between the settings and where the image goes. The fixes below cover the usual cases.
Scanned PDFs deserve a special mention. Each page of a scan is already a picture, often compressed as JPEG inside the PDF. Converting it at a much higher resolution than the scan itself adds pixels but no detail, so 150 to 200 dpi is usually the sweet spot for scanned documents.
- What you see: Small print is hard to read in the JPG.
- What to do: Set Resolution to 300 dpi and Quality to 90 or higher.
- What you see: The JPG is over the portal's size limit.
- What to do: Lower Quality to 70, or compress the JPG with a KB target afterwards.
- What you see: The PDF will not convert at all.
- What to do: It may be password protected. Remove the password with Unlock PDF first, if you are allowed to.
- What you see: Only some pages are needed.
- What to do: Choose Selected pages and type the numbers, such as 1, 3-5.
Pages, color and download
Every page is converted by default, each to its own JPG numbered in page order. Switch Color to Grayscale for black-and-white documents, which saves space without any visible change, or to Black & white for clean text-only pages. Images arrive in one ZIP unless you choose Separate files.
If the pages will be posted online, consider whether they contain personal information such as addresses, signatures or ID numbers. Unlike a PDF, a JPG cannot be password protected, and once shared in a chat or a post it is easy to forward.
Up to 20 PDFs fit in one batch. Uploaded PDFs are deleted after conversion and the JPGs 30 minutes later; no account is needed. For other formats, including PNG, WebP, TIFF and SVG, use the main PDF to Image tool.

PDF to JPG questions
Why convert a PDF to JPG instead of PNG?
JPG files are much smaller for pages with photos, scans or colored backgrounds, and nearly every form and app accepts them. PNG is the better pick for pages of plain text and line drawings, where it stays sharper.
A form wants each page of my document as a JPG. How do I do that?
Convert with All pages selected and choose Separate files under Download as. You get one JPG per page, named in order, ready to upload into each slot of the form.
The text in my JPG looks fuzzy. What should I change?
Raise Resolution to 200 or 300 dpi and Quality to 90 or more. Small print needs more pixels; JPG compression also softens edges at lower quality settings.
My JPG is too large for the upload limit. What now?
Lower Quality to about 70 and keep Resolution at 150 dpi. If it is still too large, use Compress Image on the JPG with the form's KB limit as the target.
Can I convert only the first page of a PDF to JPG?
Yes. Set Pages to First page only. That is handy for a cover image, a thumbnail or the first page of a certificate.
Does the JPG keep transparent areas of the PDF?
No. JPG has no transparency, so the page background is white. For a transparent background, convert to PNG instead.
