One rule for every EU country
The whole EU changes clocks at the same moment: 01:00 UTC on the last Sunday of March and of October, under Directive 2000/84/EC. That is why Paris, Berlin, Warsaw and Stockholm never drift apart, and why the UK, which applies the same dates, stays exactly one hour behind them.
Against fixed GMT the effect is simple: one hour in winter, two in summer. Against London time it is one hour all year, because London's own clock moves to BST on the same night.

Trips, matches and transfers
For travel, the clock you need is usually the local one at each end. A flight that leaves London at 07:00 local and takes about 1 h 30 min to Geneva lands around 09:30 local time, because the Swiss clock is one hour ahead. Rail tickets on the Eurostar list the departure in UK time and the arrival in Paris or Brussels time, so the trip looks an hour longer than it is.
European football matches scheduled for 21:00 in Central Europe kick off at 20:00 in the UK. In fixed GMT terms that is 20:00 in winter and 19:00 in summer.
GMT to CET questions
How many hours ahead of GMT is CET?
One hour in winter. From the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October, Central Europe is on CEST, two hours ahead of GMT.
What is 14:00 GMT in Paris?
15:00 in winter and 16:00 in summer.
Is the UK one hour behind Europe all year?
Yes. UK and EU clocks change at the same instant, so London is always one hour behind Paris. Only fixed GMT, used on this page, is two hours behind in summer.
Has the EU stopped changing its clocks?
No. The European Parliament voted in 2019 to end seasonal clock changes, but the member states have not agreed, so the switch still happens every March and October.
