Each page of the Word file becomes one lossless PNG, so headings, tables and small print stay as sharp as they look in print preview.
Why turn Word pages into images
A .docx file needs a word processor, and the person opening it may not have the same fonts, the same version of Word or any office app at all. An image of the page needs nothing. That is why people turn a page into a picture when they want to show it rather than edit it: a page of a report in a slide deck, a flyer or a menu posted online, a certificate or a letter previewed in a chat, a resume page in a portfolio.
DOCX is the Office Open XML format, published as ECMA-376 in 2006 and ISO/IEC 29500 in 2008, and the file is really a ZIP of XML parts. The layout you see is calculated when the document is opened. A PNG captures that layout once and for all, so the line breaks, page breaks and table widths look the same on every screen.
PNG is the natural image format for this job. Document pages are mostly text, lines and flat color, which PNG stores without loss and compresses well. JPG would blur the edges of letters slightly and add faint noise around them, which shows when the image is enlarged on a projector or zoomed on a phone. Choose JPG only for pages that are mostly photographs.
DOCX
Word document
Microsoft Word's default format since 2007, based on the openly published Office Open XML standard. It stores editable text with styles, tables, images and comments in a zipped package. Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages all open it, though complex layouts can shift slightly between programs.

PNG
PNG image
An open raster format the PNG Development Group published in 1996 as a patent-free replacement for GIF. Compression is lossless and a full alpha channel keeps soft edges and cutouts clean. It suits screenshots, logos and interface graphics; photos come out much larger than as JPG.

- Still images only
Why convertGoing from DOCX to PNG turns an editable, reflowing document into fixed page pictures: nothing can be retyped anymore, but the layout is locked and the pages display in any app, slide or post. For a fixed document that keeps selectable text, Convert to PDF is the better route.

DOCX to PNG questions
Do I need Microsoft Word installed to convert DOCX to PNG?
No. The document is rendered on our side and you only need a browser. That also makes it possible to create page images on a phone or a computer without Office.
Will the PNG look exactly like the page in Word?
Very close in most cases. Differences come mainly from fonts: if the document uses a font that is not available to the renderer and not embedded in the file, a similar font is used and lines may break differently. Embed fonts in Word's save options to avoid this.
What size will a PNG of an A4 Word page be?
It depends on the resolution. At the preset 150 DPI an A4 page is about 1240 × 1754 pixels; at 300 DPI it is 2480 × 3508. A Letter page is slightly wider and shorter.
Can comments and tracked changes appear in the image?
The image shows the document as it would print in its current state. Accept or reject tracked changes and remove comments in Word first if you do not want them, or if you do want them visible, make sure they are set to show in print.
Can I make the page background transparent?
Yes. Switch on Transparent background under Quality. The white paper is left see-through, which helps when you place a page, a table or a signature block on a colored slide.
How do I get a single image of the whole document?
Set Images to One long image. All pages are stacked into one tall PNG, which suits short documents shared in a chat.
Settings for different uses
The right resolution depends on where the image goes. Screens need fewer pixels than paper, and very large images only slow down slides and chats. The tabs below give a starting point for the three most common destinations.
Letter-size documents from the United States are a little wider and shorter than A4, so their images have slightly different proportions. The converter follows the page size set in the document itself; nothing needs to be changed here for either paper size.
Keep 150 DPI and PNG. A page fits a slide at full height without becoming heavy.
- Resolution: 150 DPI
- Images: One per page
- Transparent background: optional
Convert only the pages you need and keep the file small; 150 DPI is plenty for phones.
- Pages: First page or a range
- Resolution: 150 DPI
- Convert to: PNG, or JPG for photo-heavy pages
Use 300 DPI so text prints as sharply as it would from Word.
- Resolution: 300 DPI
- Images: One per page
- Transparent background: off
Before you convert
Open the document once and check what will be drawn. Hidden text, comments and tracked changes follow the document's print settings, headers and footers appear on every page, and an empty last page caused by a stray page break becomes an empty image. Fixing these in Word takes a minute and saves you from editing images later.
Fonts matter most for an exact match. Documents that use common fonts render faithfully; a document set in a rare or licensed font looks best if the font was embedded when it was saved. Images inside the document are drawn at the resolution you choose, so a low-resolution logo in the DOCX stays low-resolution in the PNG.
If only one table or chart matters, convert just that page with Page range and crop the PNG in any image editor. A cropped image of a single table is often easier to read in a chat or a slide than a full page with wide margins around it.
Up to 20 documents of up to 95 MB each fit in one batch. Files are deleted after conversion and the images after 30 minutes. For PowerPoint, Excel and HTML files, the main Document to Image tool takes the same settings, and to collect the PNGs into a PDF later, use PNG to PDF.
