LinkedIn Banner Size
LinkedIn uses two different banner shapes: a 4:1 background on personal profiles and a much thinner cover on company Pages. This page resizes to the profile background by default and shows the Page size next to it.

In short
- 1Personal profile background: 1584 × 396 px recommended, JPG or PNG, under 8 MB.
- 2Company Page cover: 1512 × 256 px, PNG or JPEG, up to 3 MB.
- 3The profile photo overlaps the lower left of a personal banner.
- 4This page is preset to 1584 × 396 with Crop to fill.
Two banners with two shapes
The banner people usually mean is the background photo on a personal profile. LinkedIn's help article on adding or changing the background photo recommends 1584 by 396 pixels and a JPG or PNG file smaller than 8 MB. Divide the width by the height and you get exactly 4, so the shape is 4:1.
Company Pages are different. LinkedIn's Page image specifications list a cover image of 1512 by 256 pixels, a shape of almost 6:1, together with a square logo of 400 by 400 pixels, and accept PNG or JPEG files up to 3 MB. The cards below show the Page sizes from our checked data next to Facebook's cover for comparison; the personal background is the preset on this page.
Most source pictures are far from 4:1. A phone photo held sideways is about 4:3, so turning it into a profile background keeps its full width but only around a third of its height. That is why choosing the right picture matters more than any setting: a wide, calm scene loses little, while a photo with a subject in the upper or lower third may lose exactly that subject.
Placing the important part
A 4:1 strip is very wide and very short, and on a personal profile the round profile photo covers part of its lower left. Phones also show the background at a smaller scale than desktop browsers. Put anything you want people to read, such as a tagline or a company name, in the middle or on the right half, with some space above and below it.
Crop to fill trims your picture to 4:1 around its center and then scales it to 1584 × 396, so nothing is distorted. If the interesting part of a photo is near the top, such as a skyline, set Crop position to Top. For a graphic you designed yourself, export it at 1584 × 396 in the first place and use this page only to convert or compress it.
A batch of up to 20 pictures gets the same size, which is handy when you want to try several candidate banners and compare them on your profile before settling on one.

LinkedIn banner questions
What is the LinkedIn banner size for a personal profile?
LinkedIn's help page recommends 1584 × 396 pixels for the background photo on a personal profile, as a JPG or PNG file smaller than 8 MB. That is a 4:1 shape.
Is the company Page cover the same size?
No. LinkedIn lists 1512 × 256 pixels as both the minimum and the recommended size for a Page cover image, with PNG or JPEG files up to 3 MB. It is thinner than a profile background, so a picture made for one does not fit the other without cropping.
Why is part of my banner hidden behind my photo?
On a personal profile, the round profile photo sits over the lower left of the background. Keep names, slogans and logos toward the center or right, and leave the lower left for plain background.
My banner looks blurry after uploading. What can I do?
Start from a picture at least 1584 pixels wide, so the resize only scales down, and save it as PNG if it contains text. LinkedIn recompresses uploads, and a clean, full-size source survives that best.
Can I use a photo of myself as the banner?
You can, but a 4:1 strip cuts most of a portrait away. A wide photo of a place, a workspace or a simple graphic usually works better, with your profile photo doing the job of showing your face.
Profile background or Page cover
If you manage both a personal profile and a company Page, you will need two versions of the same picture. Resize the profile version first with the preset, then run the same source again with the width and height changed to the Page size. The two crops take different amounts off the top and bottom, so check each one.
When you are unsure which crop LinkedIn will show, upload the banner and look at your profile on both a phone and a computer before sharing the link. If something important is hidden, move it in the source picture, resize again and replace the upload; LinkedIn keeps only the latest background.

Saving the file
A 1584 × 396 JPG at the default quality of 85 is far below either upload limit, so the file size is rarely a concern. Choose PNG under Output format for banners with lettering or flat colors, where JPEG compression can leave faint smudges around edges. Location and camera details are removed by default. If LinkedIn ever rejects the upload, check that the file really is a JPG or PNG and not a HEIC photo straight from an iPhone; set Output format to JPG to be sure.
For other sizes, the main Resize Image page takes any width and height, and the Crop Image tool lets you mark the exact area by hand before resizing. The same approach applies to the Facebook cover, which uses yet another shape.
