Discord PFP Resizer
Discord shows your profile picture as a small circle, so the picture you upload should be a square with the important part in the middle. This page makes that square for you at a size that stays sharp.

- Also called profile picture · avatar
- Short for profile picture: the image shown next to your name in Discord servers, direct messages and member lists. Discord displays it as a circle, so the upload should be a square.
How big a Discord avatar should be
Discord's blog post with profile tips from design professionals gives the basic numbers: an avatar of around 200 by 200 pixels at minimum, in JPG, PNG or GIF, and under 10 MB. It also points out that a square photo is fine to upload but will be cropped to a circle when it is displayed.
Discord does not publish a single exact pixel size, and it scales your upload down for the places it appears, from member lists to profile popouts. That leaves you free to choose any square at or above the minimum. We set this page to 512 × 512 pixels. It is well above the suggested minimum, so the avatar stays sharp on high-density phone and laptop screens, and it keeps the file small enough to upload quickly.
Going much larger than 512 brings little benefit, because the avatar is never shown at that size. A 4,000-pixel phone photo uploaded as it is would still be scaled down by Discord, and the upload would take longer for no visible gain. Resizing first also lets you see exactly what the square will contain.
200 × 200
pixels, the minimum avatar size suggested in Discord's own design tips
The same post lists JPG, PNG and GIF and a 10 MB maximum. This page uses a larger square, 512 × 512, which you can change in the width and height boxes.
Framing for the circle
A circle inside a square hides the four corners, which together are a little over a fifth of the area. Anything placed there, such as a name written along the bottom or a logo tucked into a corner, will not be seen. Center the subject and leave some space around it, especially at the top of a head or the ends of a wordmark.
Crop to fill first trims your picture to a square and then scales it, so nothing is stretched. The crop is centered by default. For a selfie where the face is in the upper part of the frame, set Crop position to Top; for a photo with one clear subject, Smart (subject) tries to keep it in the middle of the square.
Contrast matters at small sizes as much as framing does. Discord shows avatars on both dark and light themes, so a dark logo on a transparent background can vanish in dark mode. A version of the logo on its own solid background color, made in your design app before resizing, stays visible in both themes and needs no extra thought later.

Discord PFP questions
What size is a Discord profile picture?
Discord's own design tips suggest an avatar of around 200 × 200 pixels at minimum, as a JPG, PNG or GIF under 10 MB. Any square at or above that size works; this page uses 512 × 512 so it stays sharp on high-density screens.
Why does Discord cut off the corners of my picture?
Avatars are displayed as circles. A square upload keeps its full content in the file, but the corners are hidden on screen. Keep text and faces inside the central circle.
Can I keep my GIF animated?
Yes, if the source is a GIF. Keep animation is on by default for GIF and WebP output, so every frame is resized to the square. Check Discord's current rules for animated avatars, since they depend on your account type.
Why does my avatar look blurry on Discord?
Usually the source was small, for example a picture saved from a chat, and was enlarged to fit. Start from the largest version you have; scaling a big picture down to 512 pixels gives a crisp result.
What size should a Discord banner be?
Discord's design tips put the profile banner at a minimum of 600 × 240 pixels, under 10 MB. Type those numbers, or a larger size with the same 5:2 shape, into the width and height boxes.
Formats and animated avatars
For a still avatar, the output format can stay the same as the input. PNG is the better choice for drawn art, pixel art and logos with flat colors, since it keeps edges exact. JPG suits photos and gives a smaller file. Both are on Discord's list of accepted formats.
If you start from an animated GIF, Keep animation resizes every frame to the same square, so the loop plays as before at the new size. Long or very colorful GIFs can grow large; if the file ends up near the 10 MB limit, tick Limit file size and set a lower number, or shorten the clip first with the Video to GIF tool.
Location and camera details are removed from the output by default, which matters for selfies taken at home: the file you upload to a public server carries only the picture.
If the picture still reads when it is the size of a fingertip, it will read in a member list.
Other profile sizes
The same square works for most other apps that show round avatars, though each platform scales differently. For banners and covers, which are wide rather than square, see the LinkedIn banner page or type any size on the main Resize Image page. To cut out a face by hand before resizing, use the Crop Image tool.
Server profiles can use a different avatar from your main one, and the same square from this page works for both.
