When one code at a time is too slow

Some jobs need hundreds of QR codes that differ only in their content: a label for every product in a catalog, a code on every ticket for an event, an asset tag on every laptop in an office, a link to each table's order page in a restaurant. Making those one by one means typing, generating and saving the same way again and again, and mistakes creep in.

A bulk run turns the whole list into codes in one step. You paste the column, set the size and format once, and download a ZIP with every code numbered in the order of your list. Because each file follows the row it came from, matching code 37 to row 37 of the spreadsheet is straightforward when you lay out labels or merge them into a print template.

It also removes a whole class of errors. When codes are made by hand, it is easy to paste the same link twice or skip a row, and nobody notices until a customer scans the wrong label. Generating from the list itself means the codes are exactly as correct as the spreadsheet, so checking the list once checks every code.

How much fits in each code

The figures above are the limits of the largest QR code, version 40, at the lowest error correction level, as listed in DENSO WAVE's version tables. Real labels should stay far below them. The more data a code carries, the more modules it needs, and a dense code printed small is hard for phone cameras to read.

For bulk work that usually means short entries: a product number, a short link or an ID that your system looks up. Twenty or thirty characters per line give compact codes that scan well even on small stickers.

If your entries are long, such as full product page addresses with tracking parameters, consider shortening them with a redirect on your own site first. The codes become simpler, and you keep the option of changing where each one leads.

Keep each line short: a short link or an ID gives a simple pattern that scans from a small label.

Choosing the file type for print

PNG is preset at 1000 pixels, which prints sharply at a few centimeters wide and works in office software, label tools and online print services. If a designer or print shop will place the codes in a layout program, ask whether they prefer SVG, PDF or EPS: those are vector formats that stay sharp at any size, from a price tag to a banner.

All codes in a batch share the same settings. Error correction M is a good default for indoor labels; choose Q or H for stickers that may be scratched or partly covered, which adds redundancy at the cost of a denser pattern. Dark modules on a light background and an intact white margin around each code matter more than any other setting.

Preparing your list

Clean the list before pasting it. Remove the header row, empty lines and stray spaces at the end of cells, because every character becomes part of the code. If the entries are links, make sure each one starts with https:// so phones open it as a web page. Test two or three codes from the ZIP with a phone before sending the whole set to print.

The box accepts up to 100,000 characters per run. Your list is used only to draw the codes and is not kept. For a single code with a destination you can change later, see the Dynamic QR Code Generator; for Wi-Fi, contact cards and other types, use the QR Code Generator, and labels with a payment code are covered by the UPI QR Code Generator.

How to make QR codes in bulk

  1. Paste your list

Copy a column from Excel, Google Sheets or a CSV file and paste it into One entry per line. Each line becomes one code.

  2. Choose the file type

PNG at 1000 px is preset. Pick SVG, PDF or EPS under the output options if a printer or designer asked for vector files.

  3. Generate and download

Press the generate button and save the ZIP. The files are numbered by line, so code 1 matches row 1 of your list.

Bulk QR code questions

How do I get my spreadsheet column into the generator?

Select the cells in Excel or Google Sheets, copy them and paste into the box. Each cell lands on its own line. Remove the header row first so it does not become a code.

How are the files in the ZIP named?

By line number, in the order of your list, so the first line becomes file 1. Keep the list next to the files to match each code to its row.

Is there a limit on how many lines I can paste?

The box takes up to 100,000 characters. For short links or product numbers that is thousands of codes; longer entries mean fewer lines per batch. Split very long lists into several runs.

Do all codes get the same size and colors?

Yes. Size, margin, error correction and colors apply to every code in the batch, which keeps a sheet of labels consistent.

Can a line hold something other than a web link?

Yes. Any text works, such as a serial number, a ticket ID or a short note. A phone shows plain text on screen instead of opening a page.

Which file type should go to a label printer?

Label software usually takes PNG or PDF. Ask for its preferred resolution and set Size to match, or use SVG or EPS for software that can place vector graphics.
