px to cm Converter
A pixel has no fixed physical size until you choose a resolution. Type a pixel value, keep 96 DPI for screens and CSS or switch to 300 DPI for print, and read the length in centimeters.

Pixels per inch used to turn pixels into cm, mm or inches. 96 is the screen/CSS standard; use 300 for photos and print, or the DPI a form specifies. At 300 DPI, 1 cm = 118 px.
Windows and most upload forms count 1 KB = 1024 bytes (1 MB = 1024 KB). macOS and disk makers use 1000. The difference is about 5% at MB size.

In short
- 1Centimeters = pixels ÷ DPI × 2.54.
- 2At 96 DPI, the CSS standard, 1 px is about 0.0265 cm.
- 3At 300 DPI, a common print value, 1 px is about 0.0085 cm.
- 4The same pixel count gives a different length at every DPI.
Pixels become centimeters only at a DPI
A pixel is a counting unit, not a length. An image 1,000 pixels wide is just a grid with 1,000 columns; how wide it appears depends on how many of those columns are packed into each inch of screen or paper. That density is DPI, dots per inch, or PPI when people mean screen pixels. Once it is fixed, converting is straightforward: divide the pixels by the DPI to get inches, then multiply by 2.54, the exact number of centimeters in an inch.
The table below runs that conversion for common print widths at 300 DPI. It reads both ways: find a width in centimeters and see how many pixels it needs, or find a pixel count and see the print width it gives.
A common source of confusion is the DPI value stored inside image files. Many photos say 72 DPI in their properties, others 300, and the number is often just a default written by the camera or editor. It changes nothing on screen. It only tells print and layout programs what physical size to use, which is why the converter asks you for the DPI instead of guessing it.
| Size | Inches | Centimeters | Pixels at 300 dpi | Long edge |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 in | 1 | 2.54 | 300 | |
| 2 in | 2 | 5.08 | 600 | |
| 4 in | 4 | 10.16 | 1200 | |
| 5 in | 5 | 12.7 | 1500 | |
| 6 in | 6 | 15.24 | 1800 | |
| 8 in | 8 | 20.32 | 2400 |
96 DPI for screens, 300 DPI for print
The default of 96 comes from the web. The W3C's CSS Values and Units specification fixes 1 inch at exactly 96 CSS pixels, and 1 centimeter therefore at 96 ÷ 2.54, about 37.8 pixels. When a web designer says a box is 378 pixels wide, it is 10 cm in CSS terms, even though the physical size on a phone or a 4K monitor will differ, because devices scale CSS pixels to their own screens.
Print is different. A printer lays down real dots, and around 300 per inch is the usual target for photos and documents viewed up close. At that density one centimeter needs about 118 pixels, more than three times as many as at 96. If you are preparing an image for print, always convert at the printer's DPI, not the screen default, or the picture will come out far smaller than you expect.
Forms that ask for a photo in centimeters and pixels at the same time usually have a DPI in mind, even if they do not state it. Divide their pixel count by their centimeters and multiply by 2.54: a result near 300 tells you to convert at 300 DPI.
How to convert px to cm
Type the pixel value
Enter the number of pixels in Value. From is already Pixels (px) and To is Centimetres (cm).
Choose the DPI
Pixel density is 96, the CSS and screen standard. Change it to 300 for photos and print, or to the value a form or printer names.
Read the result
The centimeters appear at once. Set Decimal places if you need more or fewer digits.
px to cm questions
How many centimeters is 1 pixel?
At 96 DPI, one pixel is 0.0265 cm, or about a quarter of a millimeter. At 300 DPI it is 0.0085 cm. The number always depends on the DPI, because a pixel has no size of its own.
How many pixels fit in one centimeter?
About 37.8 at 96 DPI and about 118.1 at 300 DPI. Divide the DPI by 2.54, the number of centimeters in an inch, to get the pixels per centimeter for any resolution.
Why is 96 the default and not 72?
CSS defines one inch as exactly 96 pixels, and browsers use that basis for every length on a web page. 72 comes from early printing and Mac screens and is still used in some design apps, but 96 is the standard for web work.
Will a 1000 px wide image print 26.46 cm wide?
Only at 96 DPI. Printers usually work at higher densities, so at 300 DPI the same image prints 8.47 cm wide. The pixels stay the same; the DPI decides the physical size.
Do I need to upload a file?
No. This converter works on numbers only. To change an image's actual size in centimeters, use the resize in centimeters page.
Rounding and precision
Pixels are whole numbers, but centimeters rarely are. The converter shows two decimal places by default, which is a tenth of a millimeter and finer than any printer or ruler needs. Raise Decimal places when you chain conversions, so rounding errors do not add up, and lower it for labels and quick checks.
The Keep aspect ratio option under Advanced settings helps with a related job: if you know one side and the shape, such as a 16:9 slide, it shows the other side as well, so you can convert both dimensions of a frame at once.
Same pixels, different DPI, different centimeters: always state the DPI when you quote a pixel size in cm.
Related conversions
The same converter goes the other way, from centimeters to pixels, by swapping From and To. It also handles millimeters, inches and points, and file sizes from bytes to terabytes, with a choice of 1,000- or 1,024-byte kilobytes. The main Pixel Converter page has every unit with no preset.
If you need an image file at a size in centimeters rather than a number, the resize in centimeters page does the conversion and the resize in one step, and stores the DPI in the file so print programs place it correctly. For a fixed pixel size, Resize Image takes width and height in pixels directly.
Nothing is uploaded on this page, since you only type numbers, and there is no account or limit on how many conversions you run.
