JPG to Word Converter
Most photos of documents are JPG files straight from a phone. This page reads the text in them and writes it into a Word document, with contrast enhancement on to cope with uneven light and JPEG noise.

For pages that mix two languages, e.g. Hindi with English words. Leave on none otherwise; an extra language slightly lowers accuracy.
Preserve keeps columns, paragraphs and tables where they were. Plain outputs one continuous block of text, easier to paste into forms.
PDF and multi-page TIFF input: read every page, only the first, or a range.

Can a phone photo really become a Word document?
Yes. The text is recognized and rebuilt as editable paragraphs and tables; the cleaner and straighter the photo, the fewer corrections you will make afterward.

JPEG: built for photos, not for text
How JPEG became a standard
JPEG was standardized in 1992 to store photographs efficiently, and it does that by discarding fine detail the eye rarely misses in a natural scene. Text is the opposite of a natural scene: thin dark strokes on a light background, exactly the kind of sharp edge JPEG simplifies. At high quality the loss is invisible, but at the stronger compression used by many apps, edges blur into faint blocks and halos.
That is why this page turns on Enhance contrast by default. It pushes the paper toward white and the ink toward black before recognition, which removes much of the gray haze JPEG leaves around letters and evens out light that falls unevenly across a page. On a clean, high-quality JPG it makes no visible difference, so leaving it on costs nothing.

JPG photo
The photo format standardized by the JPEG committee in the early 1990s and still the safest way to share a picture. It stores one still image with lossy compression and has no transparent areas. Phones, cameras, office software, printers and web forms all read it.

DOCX
Word document
Microsoft Word's default format since 2007, based on the openly published Office Open XML standard. It stores editable text with styles, tables, images and comments in a zipped package. Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages all open it, though complex layouts can shift slightly between programs.
- Open standard
Why convertYou keep the words and lose the photograph: the Word file holds text you can edit, search and reuse, while lighting, paper color and handwriting margins stay behind in the JPG. Keep the original photo as your proof of what the page looked like.
A JPG is one grid of colored pixels; it has no idea that some of them form the word "Invoice". A .docx file is the reverse: it stores text, styles and layout as structured content inside a zipped package, defined in the Office Open XML standard. Converting from one to the other means recognizing every letter and then deciding which letters belong to the same paragraph, column or table cell.
Pictures that are not text, such as a logo in the letterhead or a photo in a leaflet, are cut out and placed into the Word file as images. You can switch that off under Keep pictures if you only want the text.
The layout is rebuilt rather than copied, so expect Word's own fonts in place of the typeface in the photo. With Preserve layout, text boxes and columns mirror the page; switch to Plain text flow under Advanced settings when you would rather have one clean column to restyle yourself.
Taking a photo that converts well
The recognizer can only read what the camera captured. Most failed conversions come from photos taken quickly at an angle, under a desk lamp or from too far away. A few seconds spent on the photo saves minutes of correcting the document, and the habits below are the ones that make the most difference with JPGs from phones.
For a multi-page document, photograph each page separately and add all the JPGs in one batch. Each page becomes its own Word file named after the photo, so number the pictures in order before uploading if your camera app does not.
Do
- Hold the phone flat above the page so the edges of the paper are parallel to the edges of the photo.
- Use daylight or two light sources so no shadow falls across the text.
- Send the original camera file rather than a copy forwarded through a messaging app.
Avoid
- Zooming in digitally. Move the phone closer instead, so the letters have more real pixels.
- Using flash on glossy paper, which leaves a bright patch where the text disappears.
After the conversion
Open the .docx and compare it with the photo, paying most attention to numbers, names and dates, where one misread character changes the meaning and no spell checker will notice. Word's own spell check catches many of the remaining errors in ordinary words.
If you have PNG screenshots rather than photos, the PNG to Word page turns straightening off, since screenshots are already straight. For text only, without layout, the main Image to Text page has plain text and Markdown outputs.
Your photos are removed once processing ends and the Word files 30 minutes later, with no account involved.

JPG to Word questions
Why is my JPG text recognized with odd characters?
JPEG compression leaves faint blocks and halos around sharp edges, and small letters can pick up specks that look like accents or punctuation. Take the photo closer so the letters are larger, and keep Enhance contrast on.
Is a JPG from WhatsApp good enough to convert?
Often not. Messaging apps send pictures at reduced size and stronger compression, which can make small print unreadable to the recognizer. Ask for the original photo or a PDF scan if the text matters.
Can I convert a JPG of a printed table into Word?
Yes. Ruled tables and tables with regular columns come out as Word tables. If you need to calculate with the numbers, Image to Excel is built for spreadsheets.
Does it matter whether the file ends in .jpg or .jpeg?
No. Both are the same format with different extensions, and both are accepted here, along with .jfif files saved from some browsers.
What if my JPG is upside down?
Auto rotate detects the direction of the text and turns the page before recognition. It handles sideways and upside-down photos without any action from you.
